Our History

As we reflect on our history from
the perspective of the new millennium, we recognize that our
continuing growth will result from our ability to adapt to the
challenges of the future. Our multi-faceted organization operates
in a business environment vastly different from what it was 140
years ago when the company was founded.
Back
in 1862, with the Civil War raging and a new military arsenal
under construction in Rock Island, an ambitious entrepreneur
established a modest one-man insurance office which, through
time, grew and prospered with the economy. In 1899, John H. Ruhl
assumed control of the then successful agency, and broadened its
scope by offering real estate services just one year later.
Around 1920, his sons joined him, and then, around 1950, theirs.
Later, around 1970, the fourth generation of Ruhl descendents
joined the company.
Currently, NAI Ruhl & Ruhl Commercial Company is staffed with
thirty full-time professionals. Ruhl & Ruhl Realtors, Inc. is a
related company with over 200 residential real estate
specialists devoted to providing services for housing needs and
corporate relocations. In addition, the original insurance
division provides comprehensive services for business and
personal insurance needs.
Our future will be derived from the ethic that has brought us
from the dawn of the Industrial Revolution into the 21st
